Project Need :
Screen required to deal with two problems, screening storm discharges and preventing down stream flooding of local properties.
Description of Works;
Malago CSO 26 –a Wessex Water site, had been identified as an unsatisfactory intermittent discharge (UID) on aesthetic grounds which had to be resolved in year two of the AMP3 programme.
Malago 26 was required to deal with two problems, screening storm discharges and preventing down stream flooding of local properties.
The spill frequency and flow (60l/s) at this location was low enough for the Copa Crosswave screen to be an ideal solution. Flow control was achieved installing the Steinhardt Hydroslide flow regulator.
The combination of these two non-powered products meant Wessex Water could eliminate the cost of installing a power supply, whilst achieving 6mm discharge consent and a controlled pass forward flow rate preventing flooding of downstream properties.
Overall project cost excluding civil works was in the order of £15,000.
