Project Need :
Pilot plant as trial
Description of Works;
Countess Wear is an existing storm overflow, which required screening to 6mm. The design flow rate at this location was 2,465 l/s.
It was South West Water’s preference to pilot study the efficiency of Steinhardt’s water wheel driven Hydroclean Brush Screen. However, rotation of the water wheel was restricted due to rising hydraulic levels down stream of the screen.
To overcome this problem Copa were able to provide a positive motor drive to the screen allowing it to operate effectively.
The 1000mm diameter brush was 6000mm long and cost £ 56,000 complete with motor drive. A water wheel driven screen of similar size cost in the order of £42,000.
